Ben & Jerry’s to be the first with their CBD ice cream

Even though there is a lot of 'noise' in the media these days about the growing legality of medicinal and recreational marijuana in the current U.S. cannabis debate, CBD (cannabidiol) is having its own field day. CBD is a hemp-derived compound that doesn't have any of the intoxicating properties of THC. This has made it unbelievably popular for many health issues especially in the last year.

It's also becoming increasingly popular in commercial enterprises for many victual brands. You can say that CBD is going mainstream very fast. This notwithstanding, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) is yet to positively append their signature on the public usage of CBD. Just a week ago, a public debate was held by the FDA where experts were allowed to air their views on whether CBD should be allowed in the food and drinks industry, and the outcome was not good.

Nevertheless, many brands are waiting on the sidelines, ready to jump into the CBD food and drinks industry even if it means waiting on FDA approval. Ben & Jerry's (the guys that make phished ice cream) are not left out as they are seriously considering joining the CBD bandwagon.

This is according to the statement on their website which stated thus; "We are open to bringing CBD-infused ice cream to your freezer as soon as it's legalized at the federal level…"

Ben & Jerry's as you've probably noticed has always been in the forefront of any social course. And they had previously pledged their support for expunged convictions on behalf of all citizens jailed on marijuana charges.

B&J already have a mock-up design for their CBD ice cream, so it's safe to assume that they will be the first brand to enter the CBD food and drinks market, that is, when FDA finally gives their approval. No one knows when this is going to happen. But until then, Ben & Jerry's and the rest of the cottage industry will have to keep their fingers crossed.
