How Long Does It Take to Feel the Effects of CBD?

There is no disputing the fact that CBD oil is one of the top trending ingredients at the moment. Projections has it that by 2024 the total revenue generated from CBD-infused products will reach $20 billion.

One reason why CBD based products appeal to customers is its purported health benefits, from anxiety and reduced muscle pain to help with inflammation, nausea and insomnia. Even though, a verifiable research is yet to be documented on the proven benefits of the ingredient, many Americans are anxious to test out CBD-infused products.

Unless you’ve been leaving under a rock, you should know what is CBD, as it’s been making ‘news rounds’ in the past months. But if you don’t, it’s a naturally occurring compound in the leaves of the cannabis plant. It doesn’t contain THC, which means it can’t get you intoxicated regardless of the quantity you take.  

A lot of people are already jumping on the CBD train, and you’re probably wondering if you should follow suit. But remember to apply caution, as it’s a new ingredient.

One question that keeps popping up as regards consuming CBD for the first time, is the length of time it takes for you to begin to feel the effects.

According to the chief operating officer at Papa and Barkley, Boris Shcharansky, how long it takes for anyone to feel the effects of CBD will mostly depend on the method of dosage.

Ingestible CBD products

Ingestible forms of CBD products such as capsules, gummies, tinctures, etc will take time for the effects to materialize. For foods that contain CBD, you should start feeling the effects in about 45 minutes to 2 hours after ingestion. Tinctures, when kept under the tongue will adsorb within 30 seconds, and effect felt after 15 minutes.

Topical CBD products

The result is different for topical CBD products. For products like ointments, lotions and balms, the effect should take place immediately. You should start feeling the relief in about 15 minutes after applying it to your body.

Be careful you don’t overdose on it without waiting the recommended amount of time. For inflammation, aches, or just about any other issues you intend to soothe, you’ll need to exercise some patience for the effect to take place.  

Shcharansky explains that for ingestible CBD products, “Higher doses - over 200 milligrams have been associated with drowsiness.”

The amount of dosage is determinant on the particular individual, so you should avoid high dosage at the initial stage.

Shcharansky recommends that individuals hoping to feel the effects of CBD as quickly as possible should take tincture sublingually – drop it under your tongue, wait a few seconds, and then swallow.

He explains that, “… the benefits of CBD are less about immediate effects and more about cumulative benefits, if you take CBD daily, you’ll continuously reduce your inflammation, which over time, should reduce your pain and keeps flare-ups at bay.”
